First Total Hip Surgery Performed in a Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center

Orthopaedic Surgeon Jared Roberts, MD, of The Bone and Joint Center of Albany, NY has successfully performed the first outpatient total hip replacement procedures at Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center. These procedures are the first of their kind to be done in a freestanding ambulatory surgery center within the Capital Region, Saratoga County, and northeastern New York State. MVP Health Care and Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center have partnered to allow total hips, knees, and shoulders as outpatients for selected MVP patients.

“We are the first in the Capital Region to do this surgery separate from a hospital”, Dr. Roberts said. “The fact is that many patients within the Baby Boomer population are more active and more fit than previous generations, even as they begin to develop arthritis. Outpatient total joint replacement is a great option for them. In addition, progressive insurance companies such as MVP Health Care are calling for improved outcomes at reduced costs. Performing total joint replacements in a state-of-the-art facility with a high quality orthopaedic group at The Bone and Joint Center fits that model perfectly”.

“MVP Health Care partners with health care providers to offer our members more treatment options,” said Dr. Carl Cameron, vice president of medical affairs at MVP Health Care. “We are always looking for opportunities to make high-quality care as convenient and affordable as possible. This new partnership with Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center for outpatient total hip, knee & shoulder replacement procedures is an excellent example of how providers and insurers together can make a positive impact on the health care system, and in the lives of those we serve.
